Our Origin Story

Maraux Jewellery was born not in a corporate office or design studio, but on the winding streets of Sukawati, Bali.

In 2023, our founder, Katy Marks, took what felt like the biggest leap of faith of her life.

Having previously worked within the jewellery industry , she found herself longing to create something slower, more intentional and deeply personal. Rather than producing jewellery simply because it was fashionable, she wanted to create handcrafted sterling silver jewellery with meaning. 

Each week, Katy and her tiny Bali rescue dog, Molly, would jump on a scooter and weave through the villages of Sukawati to the renowned silversmithing village of Celuk.

Together, they visited local artisan workshops, sat beside master jewellers, sketched ideas, refined prototypes and learnt from generations of traditional Balinese gold and silversmiths whose craft has been passed down through families for centuries.

Molly was there through every early meeting, every exciting breakthrough and every uncertain moment. All of Maraux Jewellery's creators and their families in Bali knew and loved Molly. In many ways, she helped build Maraux from the very beginning.

Today, Katy still returns to Bali to collaborate with these same artisans, continuing relationships built on mutual respect, creativity and a shared commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.

For Katy, jewellery has never been simply about adornment. It is about capturing the moments, memories and beliefs that quietly shape who we are. She believes every piece should hold meaning, becoming part of the wearer's own story rather than just another accessory.

Inspired by the ancient constellations, the vast night sky and humanity's timeless fascination with the stars, the upcoming Celestial Collection is a celebration of connection, destiny and wonder. For centuries, people have looked to the heavens for guidance, hope and a sense that they are part of something greater. Each design draws on this enduring symbolism, transforming celestial beauty into heirloom jewellery to be treasured for years to come.

Every Maraux piece begins as an idea before being transformed by the hands of skilled artisans in Celuk, Bali, one of the world's most celebrated villages for traditional gold and silversmithing.

Nothing is rushed. Every stage follows the rigorous techniques of traditional jewellery making: hand carving, soldering, polishing, stone setting and finishing, all completed with extraordinary care and precision.

We work with responsibly sourced sterling silver, 18k gold plating and ethically sourced gemstones from within Indonesia, allowing us to create jewellery that is both beautiful and thoughtfully made.

Because our jewellery is handcrafted in small batches, every piece carries the subtle character that only true artisan craftsmanship can offer. No two pieces are ever completely identical, and we believe that's exactly how meaningful jewellery should be.

In a world of mass production, we choose to make fewer pieces, better.

The Story Behind Our Greyhound Collection

Some collections begin with a sketch.

Ours began with love (and a bit of obsession!)

After Molly passed away, the loss left an emptiness that only those who have loved a dog truly understand. She had been there through the birth of Maraux, our little companion on countless scooter rides through Bali, quietly witnessing the dream take shape.

Not long afterwards, Sophie entered our lives as a foster greyhound to help heal the whole left in our hearts.

Our beautiful rescued greyhound arrived exactly when our hearts needed healing, reminding us that while we never stop loving the dogs we've lost, our hearts somehow find room to love again.

The Greyhound Rescue Necklace was created as a tribute to every beloved greyhound—those curled up beside us today and those who now live only in our memories.

It is for the rescued racers who finally discovered the comfort of a family. It is for the gentle souls who transformed houses into homes. It is for the dogs who taught us patience, kindness and unconditional love.

Every time someone wears one of these necklaces, another greyhound's story continues. Because love like that deserves to be remembered.

As passionate supporters of greyhound rescue organisations including Greytgreys and AmazingGreys, Maraux Jewellery is proud to advocate for retired racing greyhounds and celebrate the remarkable dogs who find their forever homes. This collection exists to honour their legacy while helping shine a light on rescue and adoption.

A Personal Experience, From Our Home in Yarraville.

After the passing of Molly in Bali, Maraux Jewellery set up home back in Australia and is now based in Yarraville, where Sophie the greyhound and Katy work from. 

Clients are invited to book private appointments to view, try on, and experience the collection in person — which we believe is a more considered and slow paced way to choose jewellery that truly feels right.
