FAQ's
1. What is Maraux jewellery made from?
Every Maraux piece is crafted from solid sterling silver, with our gold pieces finished in a thick layer of 18k gold vermeil. This combination gives each piece a rich, enduring glow that outlasts regular plated jewellery.
2. What makes gold vermeil better than gold plated?
Gold plated jewellery is like a fleeting crush — pretty, but short-lived. Gold vermeil is a lasting romance. It uses a thick coating of real 18k gold pressure-bonded to genuine sterling silver (never brass, copper or steel), offering depth, durability and timeless beauty.
3. Why does Maraux use sterling silver instead of cheaper metals?
Because we believe jewellery should last longer than a trend. Sterling silver is a precious metal — durable, elegant and naturally hypoallergenic. It won't peel, flake or leave green marks on your skin the way plated costume jewellery can. It's an investment in lasting style, not fast fashion.
4. Will gold vermeil tarnish or fade over time?
With a little care, gold vermeil holds its glow beautifully — the thick 18k layer over sterling silver is built for longevity. Like all fine silver, it can tarnish gently over time; this is normal, and a soft polish restores the shine completely. Avoid direct contact with perfume, alcohol-based products, mineral spas and lotions.
5. Can I wear my Maraux jewellery in water?
Your pieces are water-resistant and fine for everyday life, including the occasional shower. We do recommend removing them before swimming, chlorinated pools, mineral hot springs, and before applying perfumes, lotions or cleaning products. These wear down any gold finish over time.
6. Can I wear my Maraux jewellery every day?
Yes — our jewellery is designed for real life. Dressed up or entirely casual, it's made to be worn rather than saved for special occasions.
7. Is gold vermeil suitable for sensitive skin?
Absolutely. Our jewellery is nickel-free and hypoallergenic, making it well suited to sensitive skin and first piercings.
8. What's the difference between gold vermeil and solid gold?
Solid gold is pure luxury; gold vermeil is smart luxury. You get the same brilliant 18k gold finish, layered over sterling silver, at a far more accessible price.
9. How should I care for my jewellery?
Store your pieces in their Maraux box, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Avoid contact with perfume and harsh chemicals, and give them a gentle polish with a soft cloth when needed.
10. How do I find my ring size?
Two options. You can use our Ring Size Chart, or we'll post you a free ring sizing kit — no charge and no postage cost. Order it like any other product and we'll dispatch it the next business day.
