A Gift Guide for the Greyhound Obsessed

Buying for someone who talks about her dog more than anything else?

You're in the right place.

If the person you're shopping for has a greyhound, you already know the situation. There are photos of the dog on her phone that she will show you unprompted. There is a bed in the lounge room that cost more than yours. She has opinions about coat weight and knows exactly what roaching means.

She is, frankly, not difficult to buy for. She's just difficult to buy for well — because the obvious greyhound gifts are novelty items, and she has enough of those.

This guide is for the people who want to get it right.

A note on who's writing it: Maraux is run by Katy, who is a greyhound mum herself. Sophie — known in this house as Shnoots, the noodle dog — is where all of this started. The greyhound pendant was drawn from life, from her actual dog. So this isn't a brand that added dogs to a catalogue. It's the other way around.

Start here: the Greyhound Rescue Necklace

From $129

If you buy one thing from this page, buy this.

The pendant was drawn from Sophie — the arch of the back, the set of the ears, the particular shape only greyhound people recognise. It's handcrafted in sterling silver or 18k gold vermeil by our makers in Celuk, Bali, and a donation goes to greyhound rescue with every single one sold.

That last part matters more than you might expect. For most greyhound owners, the piece isn't jewellery so much as a way of carrying the thing they care about. The donation is what turns a nice gift into one she'll tell people about.

How to choose:

Option Price
Sterling silver, pendant only $129
Sterling silver, with chain $199
18k gold vermeil, pendant only $139
18k gold vermeil, with chain $219

Pendant only is the right choice if she already wears a chain she loves. If you're not sure, get the version with the chain — it's the safer gift and it arrives ready to wear.

Which metal? Look at what she already wears. If her watch and her rings are silver-toned, go silver. If she wears gold, go vermeil. If you genuinely can't tell, silver is the safer default.

For Gotcha Day

Greyhound people mark the adoption anniversary the way other people mark birthdays, and most of them do it without anyone else acknowledging it. Turning up with something for Gotcha Day is a genuinely unexpected gesture.

The Greyhound Rescue Necklace — from $129 — is the natural choice, especially in the year she adopts.

Sophie Heart Signet Rings — from $139 — are named after the greyhound who started all this. A sculptural heart in gold vermeil with three zircons, in green or pink. Available as a stacking ring, so it works alongside things she already wears.

The Maraux Curb Chain — $70 silver, $80 gold vermeil — pairs with a pendant she already owns, or turns a pendant-only purchase into a complete gift.

The heirloom: Iconic Dark Bali Handwoven Bracelet

From $670

For a fiftieth, a significant anniversary, or the year something mattered.

This is made to order and hand-woven over nine hours using a traditional Balinese chain-weaving technique. It is not a quick purchase and it isn't meant to be. It's the piece that gets passed on.

If you're buying at this level, email hello@maraux.com.au first and we'll talk you through sizing and timeframes properly.

If you have absolutely no idea

Three ways out, none of which involve guessing.

Order a free ring sizing kit. It costs nothing. We post you an adjustable sizer so you can measure her ring properly — or measure one she already owns while she's not looking. This is the single most useful thing on this page if you're considering a ring.

Buy a gift card. From $50 to $300. No guessing at size or metal, and she gets the pleasure of choosing. Less romantic, considerably less risky.

Ask us. Email hello@maraux.com.au and describe her. What she already wears, what the dog's name is, what the occasion is. A real person will answer and tell you what to buy. We do this constantly and we don't mind at all.

The practical bits

Sizing. Every ring listing includes both the size and the internal diameter in millimetres, so you can measure a ring she already owns and match it.

If the size is wrong. Our Perfect Fit Promise covers a free size exchange with postage paid both ways. You don't have to get it right first time.

Delivery. Standard pieces ship promptly. Made-to-order items take longer — check the individual product page, and if it's for a specific date, email us and we'll confirm before you order.

Where it's made. Every piece is handcrafted in Celuk, Bali, a village that has been a silversmithing centre for generations. Sterling silver and 18k gold vermeil.

The donation. A donation goes to greyhound rescue from every Greyhound Rescue Necklace sold. Details are on the product page.

One last thing

If you're buying this for someone whose greyhound has crossed over the rainbow bridge, say so when you order. We'll leave the cheerful packaging note off and pack it differently. It happens more often than you'd think, and it should be handled with extra love, care a nuance.
