Quality & Materials

All Maraux jewellery is made on a 925 sterling silver base, finished in 18k gold vermeil or polished sterling silver.

Gold vermeil is the highest standard of gold finishing. The gold is pressure-bonded to a genuine sterling silver base using thick 2.5–3 micron layers of 18k gold. Standard gold plating typically uses only 0.1–0.5 microns — which is why plated jewellery wears through so quickly, and vermeil doesn't.

Vermeil also has a legal definition: it must be built on solid sterling silver, never brass, copper or steel. That's the difference you're paying for, and it's why our gold pieces are designed to last several times longer than standard plated jewellery.

18k gold has a warmer, richer tone than 14k. The colour you see across our range is a direct reflection of the 18k gold used in production.

Every piece is nickel-free and hypoallergenic, and water-resistant enough for everyday wear.

One honest note on silver: like all fine sterling silver, our pieces can tarnish gently over time — that's simply the nature of a precious metal reacting with air, sweat and cosmetics. It isn't damage, and it isn't permanent. A quick buff with the polishing cloth included in your box brings the shine straight back.
